Nokwethemba Mchunu also known as Nokwe the Poet – born 17 February 1989 – is a South African poet, philanthropist, MC, inspirational speaker, and voice over artist. Her success in poetry has earned her several awards namely, two crown Gospel Music award for “Best Gospel Poet” in 2014 and 2017, the Woman to Woman Award for “Most Influential Woman” in 2015, and a nomination for the Gagasi FM SHERO Awards in 2018
Nokwethemba is best known for her series of inspirational, trendy gospel poems published on Joyous Celebration from Joyous Celebration Volume 18 to Volume 22. She has recently recorded her Debut Album Titled ‘The Greatest’, which is a compilation of some of her poetry and songs, as she is also a songwriter. She has graced the stage with her gift of poetry at many prestigious and prominent platforms in and out of South Africa and has received invites to render her poetry at Parliament in Cape Town, South Africa, Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban for a crowd of 20,000 and at the Global Essence Festival at the Durban leg.
In 2016, she performed at The Potter’s House in Dallas Texas, and also did an East Coast Tour of the USA, reciting in Washington, New York, New Jersey and Baltimore. In August 2018, she shared the stage with world renowned artist such as Marvin Sapp, Sinachi, Israel Houghton and Don Moen to name a few. Nokwe did a piece for the opening of the Woman Thou Art Loosed Conference Masterclass 2018, which is now featured as a soundtrack, along Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Nokwethemba, as an entrepreneur has founded her own company, which deals with facilitation of communication and Information Technology.
As an established poet, in 2015, she founded a youth network which focused on aiding young people to find their identities, their voice in society, and to cultivate the spirit of giving back to the disadvantaged in their local communities.
Nokwethemba serves as a mentor to many other young people and has been involved with many other programmes that instil positive values to the youth.
