Mercy Chinwo is a Nigerian gospel musician, singer and songwriter. Winner of the Nigerian Idol Season 2 in 2012, Mercy is a powerful vocalist and a renowned songstress in the Nigerian music industry. She is currently signed to Eezee Conceptz record label.
Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. She is the fourth child in a family of five (first daughter). Mercy Chinwo got involved in music at a very early age, being a member of the children’s choir in her church and transitioning to the adult choir prior to launching her musical career.
MM1, as she’s fondly called, started her musical career by lending her vocals to musical projects by gospel music artistes such as Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan, and Preye.
Mercy Chinwo dropped her first single titled Testimony in 2015, a year later she dropped her second single titled Igwe.
Her major breakthrough came in 2018 with the song Excess Love which gained so much popularity and confirmed her musical ability.
In 2018, Mercy Chinwo was awarded the Best Gospel Artiste at the CLIMAX Awards 2018. In 2019, at the maiden edition of the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST 2019) Mercy Chinwo was named winner in three categories namely Africa Gospel New Artist of the Year, Africa Gospel Female Artist of the Year and Africa Gospel Song of the Year (Excess Love). Notably, the categories she won contained the likes of Sinach, Prospa Ochimana and Tim Godfrey.
